Alex
Perry, a graduate in textiles from the Norwich School of Art &
Design, was selected as the winner of the most innovative and skilful
use of machine embroidery in work presented at the New Designers
Award 2001 at the Business Design Centre, Islington.
The
selection panel of 5 judges awarded £1000 and the chance to
take part in the Graduate Showcase at the Knitting and Stitching
Shows in London, Dublin and Harrogate in the Autumn.
Alex's
work combines machine embroidery with perspex and patterns derived
from maps and electronic circuitry to produce unique, intriguing
and beautiful images. Her work can also be seen at the art of the
STITCH international exhibition organised biennially by the Embroiderers'
Guild in association with Coats Crafts UK at the Mall Galleries
in London (18-31 August 2001), and The Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead
(15 September - 28 October 2001).
