The Golden Age of Crewelwork

Crewelwork hanging, England, c.1700 From a hanging, part of a bed-set, England, c.1700. Twill-woven linen/cotton embroidered with worsted wools in a wide range of stitches including stem, split, brick, basket, satin, fishbone, vandyke, wheatear, cross, petal, french knots, bullion knots and couching. Most of the original ground fabric has been cut away and the embroidery has been applied to a modern ground.
