A very distinctive technique - Casalguidi

The designs displayed on the Guild's Casalguidi bags are typical. A motif frequently found decorating Casalguidi bags is the pair of creatures in front of what could be a fountain or a burning brazier. Similarities between these creatures and the Lion of St Mark's, emblem of Venice, have been noted by Effie Mitrofanis in her book, Casalguidi Style Linen Embroidery. However, pairs of animals and birds are very traditional and have been found in textile design since ancient times.
